True Star Wars toy exclusives were a rarity during Christmas of 1978 – the year that Kenner produced the Sonic Controlled Land Speeder for valued client JC Penny. Remarkably the toy was available only at JC Penny, and no-where else until it disappeared altogether in early 1980.
As a consequence of this rarity and short lifespan, few children ever the unique Land Speeder in stores.
Sealed examples of the toy which came in an easily damaged cardboard box, have remained rare on the collector market ever since. Most surviving examples trace directly back to the legendary Lucasfilm archives auction of the early 2000s. Were it not for that event, the tiny population that remains would be almost non-existent.
This example has graded an impressive AFA 75+, and displays better than many AFA 80s. Its colors in particular are crisp, bright, and do not show age.
