This is the only known vintage Star Wars Paint Sample prototype for the Imperial Gunner action figure. It was used to provide direction inside Kenner, and likely sent to the Orient to provide instruction for vendors, on exactly what colors  Designers had selected for the final version of the figure.

It's painted in a mix of flat and glossy black (head and boots), and casts a far more imposing and dramatic appearance than the final production toy.

The figure is also a protomold that was made inside Aluminium molds at Kenner's Cincinnati headquarters, rather than an item that came out of the company's tooling vendor or factories in Asia.

Internal prototypes such as this one are extremely rare, and highly sought after by collectors. They are alongside action figure hardcopies, the true prototypes from the vintage Star Wars era.

They were never available to the public, and produced in tiny numbers inside Kenner's model shop. All paint was applied by hand, and the figure was also assembled by hand. It's shot in a milky white plastic color, and has a pinned head like an action figure hardcopy would.
